A Festive Thank You

Here at C&D we need to say sorry to all of our customers as this year there will be no M&Ms, wine, beer, or gifts of any kind as we thought you will probably get a lot of those things anyway, so instead and on your behalf, we have made donations to a London Homeless Charity, the IDE President nominated charity, a number of local small Justgiving requests, and to Bark Inn Kennels.

Thank you for being great customers from us, and thank you for being great people from the charities concerned.

Armac Demolition sweep the board at the C&D Consultancy fishing day

Friday, 30th June saw anglers from the demolition industry descend on Moorlands Farm Fishery at Hartlebury near Kidderminster for the first of two charity fishing days organised by C&D Consultancy.

The day started with a "demolition breakfast" that would have fed a gang of soft strippers on it's own, before the draw for pegs with the anglers well spaced around the lake for 5 hours of catching fish.

The weather was kind to us and everyone managed to catch something. At the end of the match the nets of fish were weighed and the Armac boys finished in 1st and 2nd places!

Results were:-
  1. Ash Alison of Armac Demolition 62lbs 14oz
  2. John Kerr of Armac Demolition 42lbs 3oz
  3. Carl Falconer of Spillard Safety Systems 41lbs 12oz
  4. Brent Gill of Logical Demolition 22lbs 10oz
  5. Mike Wilkinson of C&D Consultancy 18lbs 3oz
  6. Stuart Carter of C&D Consultancy 7lbs 10oz
  7. John Woodward of C&D Consultancy 6lbs 14oz
  8. Martin Hurley of R Collard Demolition 4lbs 7oz
  9. Craig Wilkinson of C&D Consultancy Did Not weigh In
Brent Gill summed up the day when he lifted his second net out of the lake to weigh in what he thought was around 10lbs of fish only to find that there was a hole in the net and all the fish had escaped!

The day finished with pie and chips in the on site cafe before Craig Wilkinson presented the trophies and prizes to the winners. A charity collection at the end raised the great sum of £200 that was presented to Bark Inn Kennels the 5th July.

If you would like to attend the next fishing day it is on Friday, 4th August at Furnace Mill, Bewdley. It's FREE but you must contact John to book your place.

Is a "no cards Christmas" the way to go?

This year, as in the previous 10 years, C&D Consultancy will not be sending Christmas cards to customers and friends to wish them seasonal greetings, instead we will be making a charity donation equivalent to the cost of the cards and stamps to our charity of the year.

This year that donation has been made to Bark Inn Kennels after the kennel walk on Sunday.

I know many people love a house full of cards at this time of year, but we feel that the money we would have spent, this year £100, can be more useful to a charity hence our decision.

As more and more people use social media to send Christmas messages and share videos of themselves as dancing elves, perhaps you could do the same this year or next and help a charity close to your heart instead.

Charity fundraising event on September 1st to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now & Bark Inn Kennels.

Here at C&D we are always willing to support charitable causes and do so on a regular basis either behind the scenes or directly. For some time now we have supported our friend Jason Guy with his fundraising for Breast Cancer Now in memory of his wife Lucy and we are doing so again in September this year.

Traditionally, Jason has raised funds for his chosen charity with events and John & Jill have raised funds for their chosen charity Bark Inn Kennels in other ways. But now we are JOINING TOGETHER with a new style of event to, hopefully, broaden the appeal of the fundraisers and raise money for both of these worthy causes.

So what are we doing then?

We are hosting a recital by International Classical Pianist Philip Lange (a personal friend of John & Jill) who has agreed to come to The Mount Hotel in Wolverhampton on Thursday evening, September 1st and perform two 45 minute recitals of some of the world's best piano music.

The casually smart evening will commence with canapes & prosecco before we move into the recital area to listen to Philip Lange's first piano recital. In the interval a silent auction will be held, as well as "£10 in the drum" and "Heads & Tails" to hopefully raise further funds before Philip returns to the grand piano for his second recital followed by cheese and wine.

Tickets are available from C&D at £25.00 each and we would ask you to register your interest ASAP by emailing john.woodward@demolishdismantle.co.uk as tickets will sell out quickly.

Philip Lange's programme is below and you can get a preview of his work by visiting his website.

Philip's Programme:
  • Arrival of the Queen of Sheba - HANDEL
  • Nocturne in F major - BIZET
  • Walk in the Black Forest - JANKOWSKI
  • Ballade for Adeline - PAUL DE SENNEVILLE
  • Forgotten Dreams - LEROY ANDERSON
  • Rustle of Spring - SINDING
  • Ave Maria - BACH/GOUNOD
  • Rondo alla Turca - MOZART
  • Barcarolle in F sharp minor - LIADOV

Football Pontoon kicking off to raise money for two charities

We'd like to share with you the details of a great fundraising game being run by Graham Large which we hope our readers will be eager to get involved with, especially considering the prizes on offer as well as it being a good cause.

We'll leave it to Graham to explain the details below:

It's that time of year again, the football pontoon is back! And this year it is bigger and better!

As many of you will know, my good friend Neil Taylor is running the New York Marathon next month for two fantastic charities.

The first of which is Birmingham Children's Hospital, where Neil's eight-year-old daughter Kiahna has undergone five major heart operations. The second is Breast Cancer Now in memory of my friend Lucy Smith, wife of our close friend Jason Guy, who sadly passed away earlier this year, aged just 33, following her long battle with breast cancer.

To help Neil's fundraising efforts, I'm organising a game of Football Pontoon. The rules of which are as follows:
  • Each person puts £10 in the pot and they are randomly assigned one of the 92 teams in the Football League. Then, once all 92 teams have been sold, the competition will begin.
  • The idea is for your nominated team to accumulate exactly 21 goals by the end of any particular sequence of league games. Only league goals will count towards your total.
  • If more than one team reaches 21 goals on the same day, the team that scored their 21st goal earliest in their game will be awarded 1st prize.
  • Whether there is a full fixture card or not, the teams who play league games will still have their goals added to their total; this is simply the luck of the draw. In the event of a game being postponed no score will be added to either team.
  • Goals are tallied up at the end of each match and the totals adjusted accordingly. If by the end of any particular game, your team's goals total exceeds 21, then you will "go bust" and have to start again from zero.
  • You are not restricted to one number, so you are welcome to increase your chance of winning by buying a second team!
We have three fantastic prizes on offer for the top three placed teams in the pontoon.

FIRST PRIZE - A pair of tickets in the International Suite for a future Wolves home game, courtesy of John Woodward from C&D Consultancy.

SECOND PRIZE - A pair of tickets in the First4Staff executive box for a future Wolves home game, courtesy of Jason Guy from First4Staff.

THIRD PRIZE - A signed montage of Wolves legends Steve Bull and John Richards.

So, if you are interested in purchasing a team and helping us raise vital funds for these charities, please drop me a line at grahamlargeuk@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support.

Thanks to the NFDC for this great write-up of the event and for the picture.

Golf Day gets coverage on BBC Radio Shropshire

Last week we attended the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Golf Day in Bridgnorth organised by Jason Guy of First 4 Staff. It went off without a hitch.

Legendary ‘All Blacks’ No.8 Zinzan Brooke in attendance along with a great turnout of former Wolves players including Mel Eves / Steve Daley / Phil Parkes / Gerry Taylor / Steve Bull / Robbie Dennison / John Richards / Barry Powell / Kenny Hibbitt / Willie Carr / Dale Rudge and Don Goodman.

So many well known names were sure to draw a crowd and some coverage, including on BBC Radio Shropshire. You can hear what they had to say by visiting the link below and jumping to the 2 hour 51 minute mark.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02p6yhc

The golf day also received a great write-up on Bdaily business news, which you can read here:

https://bdaily.co.uk/entrepreneurship/01-05-2015/brooke-and-bully-tee-off-to-support-charity

Our very own John Woodward concludes in the article:

We do a lot of work with First 4 Staff and was delighted to co-sponsor this event with Jason and his team.

To play golf with sporting legends is one thing, but to be able to do so whilst raising money for such an important charity is fantastic. It just shows what the Black Country business community can achieve when it pulls together for a common cause.

32 competitive demolition industry golfers take on the Belfry

On June 24th, 32 golfers from 14 different NFDC member companies, came together at the Belfry golf course in Warwickshire to compete for the Inter-Regional Trophy.

It has been over two years since the Inter-Regional Golf Day was last run, and I think everyone is glad to see it make a comeback, and C&D Consultancy was also very happy to be a sponsor. The winners ended up being Number 8 Construction, who counted Trevor Mills (Managing Director), Pete Hart, Gordon McKendry and the All Blacks Number 8 player Zinzan Brooke as team members.

As well as being a great day out, the evening meal following the golf raised £6,855 for charity. We hope it becomes a regular calendar event from now on!

C&D customer Coalway are trekking up Snowdon

Samantha Hawkins, office manager at Coalway Building Services Limited, is taking a group of colleagues up the side of Snowdon. The reason? Raising money for charity.

On November 2nd Samantha's group will be attempting to climb the highest mountain in Wales (3,560 feet) in order to raise money for a young relative of a colleague who has been left seriously ill following a routine surgery. The climb attempt is being called the Colaway Charity Snowdon Trekkers, and they are looking for people to sponsor them.

Here's a summary of the relative, who's name is Elle Mae Davidson, and the situation she is currently facing:

Elle Mae Davidson is the most quiet, reserved, beautiful and intelligent young lady who only turned 17 in January this year. Having achieved 12 A*s at GCSE and A/S level, Elle Mae was until January studying for her A levels in Standard and Advanced Maths, Russian, Art and General studies with the projection of more breathtaking grades as she progressed towards her dream of studying at Oxbridge.

Unfortunately on the 12th January, she suffered an initial brain haemorrhage which was closely followed by a second a few days later. After experiencing a numberoof difficulties within the hospital system generally, Elle Mae was eventually transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where she was diagnosed as having a rare and previously undiagnosed, congenital malformation in her brain known as an AVM (www.avmsupport.org.uk/what_is_an_avm.php).

Elle Mae has subsequently endured hours of life threatening surgery and remains very ill. Thanks to the skills and dedication of her medical team, best wishes and prayers of family and friends, she is alive.

If you would like to sponsor the Snowdon trek then please get in touch with Samantha directly either by phone (01902) 583 720, or email at sam@coalway.co.uk

C&D Golf Day booked for 2014

Anyone who has attended a C&D training course will know that John emphasises the need for forward planning and he has demonstrated that today by booking the C&D Golf Day for 2014.

Following this year's event on 2nd October at Wergs Golf Club Wolverhampton, John has decided to go out in the country next year and the 2014 event will be in Shropshire.

This year's event is free to C&D customers, as will be the 2014 event, but John wants to use the 2014 event as a charity fund raiser so watch this site for details of that.

The 2014 C&D Golf Day will be held on Wednesday 4th June at Astbury Hall, Astbury, Bridgnorth and full details of the course can be found at http://www.astburyhall.co.uk/. This fantastic course will host a Euro Pro tour event just 5 days after the C&D day so the course will be in magnificent condition.

Astbury Hall is owned by KK Downing a founder member of Judas Priest who became a mad keen golfer during world tours with the band. Some of you may remember the video below where KK is at his best.

Places are strictly limited so reserve yours now by emailing John at john.woodward@demolishdismantle.co.uk

Another great way to support Claire House

Regular readers of this site will know that when John was president of the IDE his Presidential charity was Claire House and IDE members raised enough money at IDE events nationwide to sponsor a full day of the hospice and that day will be Saturday 2nd March 2013.

As Steve Jack is now President of the IDE all IDE fundraising will go to his charity Baby Lifeline, but John has decided that he wants to try to do as much as he can to continue to help Claire House so that is what we will try to do.

The first chance to help them comes in a way that gets John's support, but not his personal efforts as it is a marathon across North Wales, something that was beyond John 20 years ago let alone now!

However, energetic demolition people everywhere can get involved and enter so to use a well known football chant - "Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough". Details of how to take part are as below (click the image to see it full size):
