Osama Bin Laden's compound demolished

On the 2nd May last year, US forces found and killed Osama Bin Laden in his compound located in Pakistan. It had been his home for 5 or more years, with evidence that he had not left for a very long time for fear of being captured for his acts of terrorism.

9 months on and the Pakistan government has decided to demolish the compound without any warning. Even though it has some historical value, the concern seems to be that it will become some form of shrine to Bin Laden, so action had to be taken. The other thinking is that the compound reminds Pakistan of its embarrassment over having him live there for years without anyone realizing, even though the army was located just down the road.

In order to stop anyone going near the compound as it was demolished, the work started in the dead of night and a ring of hundreds of soldiers and workers was formed around the site as the bulldozers moved in.
