Plymouth's Legacy International Hotel to be demolished for controversial retail site

Planning permission has been granted for the site that is currently occupied by the Legacy International Hotel at Marsh Mills in Plymouth. That means the hotel is now going to be demolished to make way for a new development.

The decision to award planning permission and remove the hotel is a contriversial one, mainly because a retail site will take its place. The concern comes from local business and land owners who fear a new retail site will take business away from the city centre.

The council approved the development because limits will be imposed on what can be sold there. Your typical furniture and electronics superstores will be welcomed, as will the 50 full-time jobs, but concerns remain. On a positive note, at least the development was modified in order to save a row of mature trees on the site.
