Demolition of former Lonsdale cinema that has stood empty since 2006

A building that has seen Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones play inside should be much-loved and looked after, but that's not the case for the Lonsdale cinema in Carlisle. It has stood empty since 2006 and was damaged badly by fire in 2010. Now demolition of the building has begun.

Mirroring what's about to happen to the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square, the Lonsdale building will be turned into a larger complex consisting of a four-star hotel and accompanying car park. Demolition began last week, which uncovered a really nice stained glass window. It's so nice, in fact, it is being restored and will be worked into the design of the new hotel.
