During my teenage years growing up in Tipton, I spent many hours in youth clubs and discos dancing & listening to soul music of all types, but primarily records produced in Detroit by Motown and in Philadelphia by Cameo Parkway and Philly records. So I am sad to hear that the studios of Philly are about to be demolished.
Legendary producers Gamble & Huff worked with some great artists in the 1970's such as Billy Paul, Teddy Pendergrass, Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes, The Three Degrees, MFSB, McFadden & Whitehead, The O'Jays, Lou Rawls and The Stylistics. Prior to the studios being purchased by them it produced music from Chubby Checker including the great Northern Soul anthems of "You just don't know" and "(At the) Discoteque."
In demolition we clear the past to make way for the future so all buildings will one day be demolished, but I hope that when the new condominiums are on this site there is also a "blue plaque" recording that great dance music was made here.
