IDE Membership Card replaced with CSCS PQP Card

It was decided at a meeting of the Membership Committee that the IDE Membership Card would be discontinued from the start of 2014. Instead, the CSCS PQP Card would be favoured. The card is the appropriate from of ID for competency assessed members of professional bodies including the IDE, CIOB, ICE, and IStructE.

In order to qualify, you need to be a Full Member or Fellow of the IDE, have a full record in the IDE CPD Scheme for the past 3 years, as well as having passed the CITB-Construction Skills Health, Safety and Environmental test for Managers and Professionals and the Health, Safety and Environment test.

NDTG reduces CCDO Assessment fees for 200 candidates

We are pleased to announce that the NDTG has secured funding through the ConstructionSkills Qualifying and Workforce Initiative so as to reduce the cost of CCDO Assessment for a lucky few.

In total, some 200 candidates, on a first-come first-served basis, will receive a £50 discount on the cost of CCDO Labourer Assessments & CCDO Experienced Worker Assessments (Mattockman/Topman).

CSCS cards getting smart

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme, or CSCS, provides people and companies working in the construction industry with a way of checking whether someone is qualified to be on site through the presentation of a card. It also allows companies to show clients they have a skilled workforce.

Ultimately identification checks through the use of cards help to ensure everyone stays safe, but it is possible for forged or invalid cards to be presented. CSCS know about this problem and have decided to combat it by making their cards smart.

The new cards will continue to carry a picture of the card holder, their name, and CSCS registration number, but they will also contain a chip. Using a laptop and/or card reader the card can be checked to ensure it is both legal and valid.

Brian Adams, chief executive of CSCS, said:

“Since the outset, the CSCS Scheme has been owned and managed by the construction industry. All of these developments have been initiated to meet industry demands to improve competency on site and provide systems to support this requirement. The SmartCard is a major step forward as it really enables us to assist industry access the information it needs on site.”

AR Demolition achieves Platinum CSCS Award

We were pleased to hear earlier this week that AR Demolition Ltd. has achieved the Platinum Award from CSCS - Construction Skills Certification Scheme

CSCS Certificate of Commitment

The CSCS Certificate of Commitment is awarded to companies who have shown a level of commitment to CSCS and its affiliates. This commitment is determined by the proportion of the company’s onsite workers who hold full CSCS or affiliated cards.

The certificates are awarded in three bands, which reflect the level of commitment:
Blue 25% - 49%
Silver 50% - 74%
Gold 75%+

Companies wishing to apply for the certificate need to submit a list of their current card holders for audit checking on the CSCS and affiliated databases to ensure that they hold full valid and in date cards.

The certificates cost £50 each, and an application form is available from the CSCS helpdesk. The certificate is valid for three years, and is renewable upon re-audit.
