Inspiring the Future shares its results

The Inspiring the Future scheme, launched by the government to get industry leaders to visit schools on a volunteer basis to talk to pupils about their career and future employment opportunities, has long been supported by C&D Consultancy and John Woodward. John actively visits schools to talk about the demolition industry and hopefully inspire a few kids to set their sights on entering it.

With the scheme having run for quite some time now, the organisers have shared some fascinating insights into the results of the initiative. You can read all about them in the latest Inspiring the Future mail out.

Some highlights include the compilation of some of the key findings from various research reports explaining how the impact of interactions with young people is positively affecting them. Recently, 150 volunteers from all over the country took part in Blackpool Aspirations Week, the Chartered Institute of Building have developed a handy resource to help students know more about the range of careers in the construction industry, and the scheme got a new high-profile volunteer in the form of Andrew Price, EMEA Finance Director at BSI.

Inspiring the Future gets a major upgrade

Inspiring the Future, the government scheme setup to get industry leaders volunteering and visiting schools, a scheme our very own John Woodward has been a part of, has been in touch to inform us of a major upgrade.

The scheme now counts 18,500 volunteers on its roster, representing 5,000 organisations who have spoken to around 450,000 young people. The upgrade makes it much easier for the 7,500 teachers taking part to find and contact a volunteer. Volunteers also have a much easier time with regards to messages. They can now respond instantly to messages via their email rather than having to log-on.

Inspiring the Future is a brilliant scheme, proven by the 2013-14 Annual Review, which goes into detail about what exactly it has achieved in such a short period of time. We urge you to take part and recommend it to other industry professionals.

C&D continue with a commitment to train a new generation of demolition engineers

Regular readers of this blog will know that John has made a commitment to "Inspiring the Future" where he goes into schools to tell pupils about demolition as a career and hopefully inspires people to become demolition engineers.

During one of those talks in Wolverhampton, a pupil Matt Birch, was inspired enough to contact John to ask if he could join C&D for work experience and that experience starts today. Matt will be part of the C&D team for the next five days shadowing John, attending meetings with Margaret, visiting site with Les and auditing with Roland & Craig so that he gets a real feel of life in a demolition consultancy.

Tipton Green school says thank you for John's talk to kids

You may remember a few days ago we posted about John Woodward giving a successful talk to the children at Tipton Green school. Well, not the school has responded with a big thank you!

Here's the email we received from the school:
