200 pounds of explosives take down bridge

Above is video footage of a 60-year old bridge being demolished over the Allegheny River near Pittsburgh last week.

It took 200 pounds of explosives to take down, and brought traffic in the area to a halt for around half an hour. In it's place two new bridges are being constructed to hold traffic, one of which is already operational.

The clear up operation will involve removing the fallen sections from the river, but also deconstruction of the remaining bridge sections connected to land.

Armac Group 18 hour bridge demolition

Armac Demolition has uploaded this great video of a bridge demolition carried out recently. The bridge is one of seven on the M1 between junctions 6a-10 which needed removing as part of a Widening Scheme.

In each case, the motorway was closed for a period no longer than 18 hours, and in some cases only 12 hours. Impressive work.

Super slow-motion bridge demolition

Everyone loves a good demolition video, but the one above is better than most.

The bridge being demolished sat on the freshwater Lake Champlain located within the borders of Vermont and New York as well as in Quebec, Canada.

The super slow motion video was made possible by using a camera capable of 120 fps capture and a 2k resolution.
