Christchurch apartment demolition time-lapse

Update: Unfortunately, the video was causing a few issues so we had to remove it. You can still watch it via the link below, though.

The video you see above is a time-lapse captured over the course of 6 days in Christchurch. The demolition involves dismantling the Terrace on the Park apartment complex, which were badly damaged in an earthquake late last year and saw two of the blocks pulled down in February due to them being so unsafe.

What makes the time-lapse unique is the fact a camera was attached to the digger claw, therefore giving us a new view on the demolition.

5-day timelapse of Alaskan Way Viaduct demolition

At the end of last month we posted a video of an articulated jack hammer starting work on demolishing the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle. It was just a small part of a big project that could prove difficult in places due to the close proximity of the viaduct to surrounding buildings.

That doesn't seem to be slowing demolition down too much, though. Rhine Demolition has recently demolished the south mile of the viaduct, and captured a time-lapse of the event you can watch above.

The time-lapse saw a photo captured every 3 minutes over the course of 5 days from the 13th floor of the nearby Norton Building. As you can see, the team make swift progress along the south mile stretch, and we can only imagine how local residents will feel about so much concrete disappearing from the landscape.

Mumps Bridge, Oldham demolition time-lapse

We missed this video when it first appeared on YouTube, but it's worth highlighting today due to the quick turnaround on a busy carriageway.

In January this year the iconic Mumps bridge in Oldham was removed over the period of a single weekend. The road was closed from 7pm on Friday, 21st January and re-opened on Monday, 24th January. As you can see, it was a very clean and methodical operation.
