Working well together

Following on from C&D’s recent success at the World Demolition Awards in the Collaboration category and a similar training day earlier in the year, we are pleased to announce yet another great example of how a number of agencies working together can make a very positive difference.

In this instance, C&D have teamed up with the Health and Safety Executive, the Working Well Together charity, and the National Demolition Training Group to provide a number of free sessions of Asbestos Awareness training sessions to local small businesses and the self-employed. We will be providing the training, the HSE and WWT the publicity, and the NDTG have kindly agreed to provide the UKATA approved certification.

The very good news is that all the sessions are now booking well with over a week to go. This means that nearly 30 people will benefit from gaining this knowledge, which hopefully will prevent them from suffering from a truly horrible disease in the future.

Working Well Together safety event October 12th

On Friday, 12th October the Working Well Together construction safety and health event for the London and South East Group is being held.

The venue is the West Wing at Chelsea Football Club with the day kicking off so to speak at 8:30am for registration. The event features presentations including Temporary Works, Demolition/Asbestos, Fire Safety and others, and a talk about the design challenges of building major projects – specifically the Emirates Cable Car across the Thames.

Key presentations will be given by:

Mark Shearon - HSE Construction Specialist Inspector
John Woodward – President of the Institute Demolition Engineers
Matt Randall – Project Director, EAL Cable Car, Mace Construction
Stewart Kidd – Managing Director, Loss Prevention Consultancy

There will be plenty of opportunities for networking and asking questions about the subjects raised. Also in attendance will be H&S and Training professionals who would be happy to discuss any issues with delegates.

John Woodward to speak at London Working Well Together Campaign

John has accepted an invitation to speak at the London Working Well Together Campaign awareness day to be held on Friday 12th October 2012.

John was invited to speak by one of C&D’s major clients, Berkeley Group, and John was only too willing to accept the invitation.

The title of the presentation will be “Danger – Demolition” and will make the point to the builders present on the day that demolition is only dangerous if carried out by unskilled operatives, and the way to safe demolition is by use of an IDE member as part of the team.

The event will be held at Chelsea Football Club and runs from 09.30 to around 15.30 with tickets available from the HSE website. As the event is at Chelsea, John fully expects to be joined on stage by John Terry when the presentation is completed and it is time for applause!

Free Asbestos Training Course next week

Working Well Together have a few places left on a free asbestos training course being held next Monday, July 30th.

The half day asbestos awareness course is being run by Focus Safety with places being open on the morning session. To book your place, visit Working Well Together to download and print the booking form.

The training is being held at the Express by Holiday Inn at Vicar Lane Leisure Exchange in Bradford. If you can get there next Monday, it's worth considering for the free training on offer.
