Oxy-Fuel/Propane Cutting

Introduction

This practical course is designed for all personnel engaged in or supervising Oxy-Fuel/Propane Cutting.

Oxy-fuel gas cutting is used to cut metal in a wide variety of industries. When used manually to cut uncoated steel in an open environment, low levels of exposure to fumes and gases are encountered. However, occupational exposure limits can be exceeded when cutting:

1) in an enclosed or confined space;
2) coated or contaminated steel; and
3) using mechanised cutting.

It is therefore essential that a suitable and sufficient assessment under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH) is conducted for each particular application in which the process is used and that appropriate control measures are established.

Aims

To provide delegates with an understanding of the principles of oxy-fuel gas cutting process, advantages and limitations of the process, health and safety issues associated with oxy-fuel gas cutting activities and to demonstrate competence in setting-up, safe use and practical application.

The Course includes:

* Personal safety
* Inform and update attendees on current codes of practice and legislation
* Necessity for safe systems of work
* Help improve safety within participating organisations
* Safe use of oxy-fuel gases
