100 year old Pudu Jail demolished (video)
Pudu Jail in Malaysia stood for 100 years. But in October last year demolition began on the 16.5 acre site. The jail was active until 1986 when it was closed following the execution of 2 Australian nationals. It then reopened for two years as a museum in 1997-98.
After that the prison lay unused before being bought to be developed as a new road system. Although the buildings have been removed it wasn't until this week that the large 300-metre-long wall surrounding the prison was finally taken down.
The video above shows you how much interest the demolition generated with the local population due to the history of the site. It is believed many thought the prison should be kept as a heritage location.
