Beatles fans fight to save Ringo Starr's home from demolition
It's not often we get to write about a terraced house being fought for, but in this case the house is quite special. Madryn Street in Liverpool is the birthplace of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.
The street is set to have the old, boarded-up houses on it demolished, but Beatles fans from around Europe are fighting to save it. At the moment it forms one of the stops on The Beatles tours, but the local council see it as having little historical value. Starr, whose real name is Richard Starkey may have only lived there for the first 3 months of his life after all.
The old houses are being demolished to make way for new family housing. The downside is the loss of a memorable building for some, but also thousands of fans visiting the area every year.
