The EDA Convention at Infracity Stockholm, in conjunction with the Demcon exhibition, saw IDE members and UK based companies such as Kokureck and Komatsu in attendance and Mark Anthony reporting on the event for Demolition News.
IDE members Dave Darsey (NFDC President) & Stuart Accleton give an excellent presentation about the demolition of Cafe Royal in Piccadilly, which involved a great deal of skill and logistical planning to achieve the end result. Other excellent presentations followed from EDA members on demolition projects in Spain, Denmark, Netherlands and Germany. The interesting first day concluded with a panel discussion about current demolition challenges and how companies can adapt to become more carbon efficient.
Day 2 saw a visit to Demcon where new equipment was on display from Sandvik, Brokk and Husqvarna in particular, and the official launch of the EDA High Reach Machine Guidance Notes after several years of debate. Stephano Panseri should be congratulated on finally getting the guide into print after previous attempts to publish always ended in frustration.
John Woodward took the opportunity, during the 2 days, to speak to leading figures in the EDA about the proposed international expansion of the IDE and he received positive interest from demolition engineers in Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, Denmark and France, all of whom expressed interest in joining when the full details of the international membership have been decided by IDE Council of Management on Thursday 23 September.
