The Dutch start laying brick roads like carpet
With the extremely cold weather we've had over the past couple of weeks there's bound to be a few new potholes appearing on the roads we use everyday. And that also means the inevitable long waits for them to get fixed.
Tarmac may be the number one choice for our major roads, but the Dutch have created a rather unique, and most importantly, fast way of laying new brick roads.
It's an automatic paver laying machine that puts down a brand new surface just like a roll of carpet. The paving bricks are loaded into the top of the machine which is as wide as the road (up to 6 meters). The pavers get sorted, packed, and fed through the machine appearing at the bottom as a pre-laid piece of road.
As soon as the road is down it is ready to use with the machine carrying extra paving bricks travelling on it to follow the auto paver.
It's clean, requires no back-breaking work from the operators, and it can lay 400 square meters of road a day. Now if only they could develop one that manages to do this with tarmac.
