The Health and Safety Executive has this year decided to repeat its Safety and Health Awareness Days (SHADs) for farmers, who work in one of Britain's most dangerous industries. Statistics show that even though less than 1.5% of the UK population is involved in farming, we still see as many as 50 workers killed each year within the industry.
The next SHAD event is being held in Oldham on September 28th at the Oldham Rugby Union Club in Bardsley. Last year farmers walked away happy and would recommend the day to others, so it looks like a worthwhile way to spend the day if you can spare the time.
Each SHAD includes practical demonstrations, with the Oldham event focusing on workplace transport, machine safety, working at height, handling livestock, safe lifting, and working with chemicals, all with a farming environment focus.
If you are interested in attending please get in touch with the HSE via email at agriculture.shads@hse.gsi.gov.uk
