Florida Ormond Memorial Hospital imploded
In 2009 Florida got a brand new medical facility built just a few miles down the road from the hospital it would replace. Inevitably that meant the old building had to go, and early last week the Florida Ormond Memorial Hospital was imploded.
The building was constructed in 1967, but it took just 10 seconds to raise it to the ground creating some 14,000 tons of debris using 150 sticks of dynamite. Now an estimated 1,200 lorry loads of rubble need to be transported off the site with 85% of it being recycled.
The goal is now to leave a flat, grassy field behind ready to be redeveloped.
