Rhine Demolition of Tacoma signed a contract worth $1.6 million with the Port of Port Angeles to demolish 11 buildings on a 19-acre waterfront site that used to be Peninsula Plywood.
As part of that contract, Rhine has to bring down a 175-foot chimney stack. Unfortunately, the chimney can't just be imploded due to the presence of asbestos. That has meant scaffolding being erected and plastic is presently being used to form a shell around the stack to stop asbestos fibres escaping.
It is hoped the asbestos can be removed in time for a March implosion, which hopefully someone will capture on camera.
