World Demolition Awards gets new judge
The World Demolition Awards are presented alongside the Demolition Summit 2012 held in Amsterdam this coming November. Our own John Woodward, IDE President is once again on the panel of judges for the awards, but this year he is joined by a new judge.
Patrick Frye, pictured above, will also have a hand in picking the winners. He has been in the demolition industry since 1986 and currently focuses on challenging demolition contracts where a novel technical solution is required.
We hope being a judge doesn't pose as much of a challenge as one of his demolition projects, but if the competition is as high as previous years it's going to be tough to pick the winners.

World Demolition Summit 2010

As regulars to the site, and those of you working in the demolition know, last year saw the World Demolition Awards held alongside the World Demolition Summit. The event took place at the Okura Hotel, Amsterdam.
If you enjoyed the event then you'll be pleased to hear it is being repeated this year at the same location.
Lindsay Gale, editor of D&Ri posted on their Demo Summit website describing what we can expect to see:
Once again, the event will feature a top-class one day technical conference that will feature leading industry speakers who will address topics of major concern to the modern demolition industry, as well as a number of detailed reports covering some of the most challenging demolition projects undertaken around the world in recent months. The conference programme is currently under development and details will be announced shortly.
The World Demolition Awards gala dinner that will be held in the evening of Friday 5th November will once again celebrate all that is best in the industry, with individual awards recognising best practice across a range of categories judged by a panel of industry experts from around the world.
The deadline for the award entries is Friday 30th July. You can find out more about the Demolition Awards at the dedicated website.

Demolition Awards extended
As a result of the unprecedented level of interest shown in the inaugural Demolition Awards, and specifically the Contract of the Year category, it has been decided to introduce two ‘highly commended’ awards in this category in addition to the award for the overall winner.
The number of entries for this category more than exceeded all expectations and more to the point, the standard of work outlined in the submitted entries is such that it is felt that more than just a single project should receive formal recognition of a ‘job well done’.
The judging panel will convene in Amsterdam on 8th September, with those shortlisted for the 11 Award categories being notified immediately after this meeting. Full short-lists will also be posted on the KHL website immediately after, along with details of the specific projects being put forward for individual awards, where appropriate.
In addition, the September-October issue of D&Ri will include a special Demolition Summit supplement, which will also be available separately, that will contain all the information you need to know about the inaugural Demolition Summit in Amsterdam on the 6th November, along will full details on all the companies and projects shortlisted for the Demolition Awards.
