Wellbeck Colliery Headstocks demolition (video)

Dick Green has sent us some footage of his latest explosive demolition. This time it's the Welbeck Colliery Headstocks, Meden Vale in Nottinghamshire with a number of ex-miners looking on in the foreground.

150ft Colwick Chimney demolition video

Our friend Dick Green has been kind enough to send us a video of the 150ft Colwick Chimney demolition he carried out on Saturday in Nottingham. It was undertaken with Phil Lowe and Chris Allsop who also managed to raise a load of money fro Troop Aid in the process.

The chimney formed part of an old sugar beet factory and has been removed to make way for the site to be re-developed.

Dick Green to speak at IDE Spring Seminar

We are pleased to announce that our friend Dick Green has agreed to give a presentation at the forthcoming IDE Spring Seminar.

We've featured Dick's explosive demolition work many times on the site, and we expect his talk to be just as explosive.

Dick Green outfitted in a fat suit and pink tutu for a good cause

We suspect Dick Green of Independent Explosive Engineers Ltd. usually wears the required safety equipment when on a demolition job. But we have photo evidence that away from work he's a bit more free and easy with his attire.

In case you have trouble picking him out in the photo above, Dick's the one in the middle, wearing a fat suit and a pink tutu. It's all in a good cause, though as Dick is raising money for breast cancer care. His total was in the hundreds of pounds which is definitely worth a congratulations.

This particular outfit may be coming out of the closet again soon. Dick is considering wearing it for his talk in Amsterdam in order to "attract a rich demolition toy boy"

Southmead Hospital Chimney demolition

On Saturday Dick Green and Phil Lowe of IndEx/SES, working with Bath Demolition and Carillion, carried out the successful explosive demolition of a 38m reinforced concrete chimney at Southmead Hospital, Bristol,

The demolition was part of Carillions ongoing £430 million redevelopment of the hospital. Although only a small chimney the project required meticulous planning and preparation as being a working hospital meant that buildings as close as 40m away could not be evacuated and the hospitals concerns with disruption, dust, and the risks of asspergilus had to be addressed.

The chimney required 3.5kg of explosives.

Dick is now heading off to South Africa for his next demolition blast which will take place on Sunday, 22nd August.

Independent Explosives Engineers launches new site

Our good friend Dick Green has re-launched his company's website Independent Explosive Engineers Ltd. or IndEx for short.

IndEx is an independent limited company specialising in the demolition of high rise structures by the controlled use of explosives.

These structures include tower blocks, cooling towers, power stations, bridges, chimneys, and other structures that may be difficult, more dangerous or more costly to demolish by traditional methods.

The new site includes full details of the services Dick offers, but also has a growing gallery of images including the Texas Stadium, Rydes Hotel in Doha, Qatar, Norfleet chimneys, Concrete Silos, and a group of images dedicated to preparation work for such specialised jobs.
