Contractor fined for unsafe visits to the toilet

MK Builders of Chester-le-Street have been fined £4,000 after it was discovered debris was being dropped three storeys on to an area used to access portable toilets.

The debris was being dropped inside the building from the third floor. Workers had been told to shout if they needed to pass through that area so as not to be hit. There were no safety signs, either, and a Fire Exit door had been blocked by materials.

MK Builders were served two Prohibition Notices for the area and told not to allow work to continue in the building until suitable fall prevention measures were in place. They later pleaded guilty to two safety breaches and incurred the fine.
