Construction ceases on 97,000 sq ft Tesco supermarket in Wolverhampton

The project to build a new Tesco on the site of the old Royal Hospital in All Saints, Wolverhampton, has been put on hold just two months after it began. Some 40 contractors were forced to stop work and leave the site.

The important thing is, the restoration work on the listed former hospital will continue, but work was ceased on the 97,000 sq ft supermarket while Tesco carries our a review.

The worry now is that Tesco doesn't decide to continue, which would mean the planned completion in 2015 and the 500 jobs it was going to create in the area would disappear. Hopefully the review will just see Tesco modify the dates and carry on construction.
