A massive year for the IDE

This year will be the 40th year that the IDE has been the only institute in the world for demolition engineers and for promoting the science of demolition engineering, and they intend to make it a year to remember.

Not only do they have the usual Autumn Seminar on Friday, 30th September at One Great George Street but, for the first time ever, a seminar North of the Border in Edinburgh on Friday, 8th July ensuring that members from Scotland can get vital IDE CPD without the need for a costly trip to London.

As it is the 40th Anniversary the CoM have decided to hold a gala black tie ball on Friday, 1st July at the Science Museum and tickets are selling well.

All in all it has been a busy year for President Duncan Rudall in his last year in the position before he hands over the President's jewel on Friday, 11th November to David Darsey.

11th November will also see a newly elected Vice President. Members should think carefully before deciding who to vote for as by the time the election comes round the IDE will be in partnership with Wolverhampton University in delivering the first ever BSc and MSc in Demolition Engineering. That will place it a long way down the road towards fully chartered status.

As of today no-one has thrown their hat into the ring for the Vice President election and I am keen to see who intends to stand to follow Dave Darsey into the chair.

Exciting times for our institute!

You are invited to a very special occasion with the IDE

The IDE is proud to be celebrating its 40th year!

From humble, some may even say parochial, beginnings, when a small group of the leading lights in the UK demolition industry came together in 1976 to create a new professional body, the vision of those founding fathers has become an established and respected reality and under its 21st, and youngest, President, Duncan Rudall, The Institute of Demolition Engineers marks a special anniversary as it reaches is 40th birthday.

The IDE has grown, settled and established for itself a national and international reputation for fostering and promoting individual and industry professionalism. It supports and represents the full breadth of the demolition sector, from the newest students to the leaders of major national and international companies. Proud to partner with the NFDC and NDTG, the Institute of Demolition Engineers promotes education, training and professionalism that can take members from their first days in the industry through apprenticeships and incremental development all the way to Chartered Engineer recognition.

On 1st July 2016 the Institute of Demolition Engineers is gathering to celebrate 40 years of achievements and to look forward to the next 40 years. Join demolition engineers from across the UK and from overseas at The Science Museum to mark a true milestone and to be part of the way ahead.
