World Demolition Summit 2017 spotlights winning projects

The World Demolition Summit 2017 is fast approaching, being held this year in London on November 2nd.

If you haven't yet booked your tickets, here's 5 examples of what you'll get to experience during the summit if you do:

1. Ryan Priestly, president of Canadian contractor Priestly Demolition, who will give an insight into the Nipigon River Bridge replacement project that won his company both the Civils Demolition and overall World Demolition awards at the WDS in 2016.
2. Scott Knightly, the owner and president of US firm Envirovantage, will speak on the five-storey mill demolition at The Lofts in Saco Falls. This was the winner of an Excellence in Demolition Award at the National Demolition Association convention earlier this year.
3. Rye Demolition, will talk delegates through its demolition of the former West Ham United football stadium in the UK capital, fittingly for the first WDS to be held in London.
4. Martin Bjerregaard, of Disaster Waste Recovery will talk about demolition and debris management in Syria.
5. James Howard, of Coleman Group will give a paper on Crisis management – responding to major incidents.

World Demolition Summit 2017 almost has all its speakers

Demolition & Recycling International is reporting that the speaker roster for the World Demolition Summit 2017 is nearly full.

Altogether there are 10 available slots for presentations, and 8 of those have now been filled. To put that into context, there's still several months until the Summit takes place (November 2nd). It seems likely the 2 remaining slots will be filled imminently.

The 8 confirmed speakers are as follows:

WDS 2017: Two New Speakers Confirmed

The World Demolition Summit 2017 has two new speakers confirmed for this November's event!

They are Jacqueline O'Donovan and Scott Knightly.

Jacqueline O'Donovan is managing director of O'Donovan Waste Disposal, and her talk will focus on developing closer working relationships between the demolition, recycling and logistics industries.

Scott Knightly is president of the US National Demolition Association and also runs his own company called Envirovantage. His talk will focus on the demolition of an 11,000 sq m (120,000 sq ft) mill complex in the US.

ICM 40th anniversary speaker line-up announced

This October the Institute of Construction Management is going to celebrate their 40th anniversary with a National Conference on Friday, October 16th.

We now have the provisional speaker line-up for the conference, and it includes our very own John Woodward:

William Sinclair and his father to speak at the World Demolition Summit 2015

We are pleased to pass on the news that William Sinclair, immediate past president of the NFDC, will be giving a presentation at the World Demolition Summit 2015 this year.

His presentation will be about "The demolition role in urban redevelopment," which will have a strong focus on the implosion of the six Red Road towers in Glasgow last year. There's also a chance he will speak about the "Gallowgate Twins" demolition and the first use of Despe’s TopDownWay modular deconstruction system. William's father, David Sinclair, will also be speaking.

Final programme revealed for the IDE Spring Seminar

The final programme has been revealed for the IDE Spring Seminar happening on Friday, 27th February. You can view it by following this link to the IDE website:

According to the IDE, "pre-bookings are still being taken until 20th February. We are still able to take bookings after this date and delegates are able to “pay-on-the-day” however lunch will not be offered with this option."

KHL and DRi announce the first of the speakers for the Istanbul Demolition Conference

DRi have announced the first speakers for Istanbul including our own Mike Kehoe. Mike's presentation will be "Planning for Success" – preparing the ground for successful demolition projects.

More speakers confirmed for World Demolition Summit

It's always great to hear that new speakers are being confirmed for the World Demolition Summit, and we have some more to announce:

David Mardigian from MCM Corporation - speaking about decommissioning the former Bethlehem Steel Sparrow Point plant in Maryland, which counts as the largest industrial clean-up currently under way in the country.

Our friend Fabio Bruno Pinto is also flying in from Brazil to talk about a bridge implosion in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. Attendees of last year's Summit will remember he discussed the planning of this implosion. This year he will discuss how it went.

First World Demolition Summit 2014 speakers announced

D&Ri have announced the first duo of speakers that are confirmed for the World Demolition Summit 2014, which is this year being held on the 6th November at its regular destination of Amsterdam. The confirmed speakers include:

Clinton Dick and Simon Gill from Liberty Industrial
Direct from Australia, Clinton and Simon will give a presentation covering the dismantling and demolition work required at the Rio Tinto Hismelt pig iron smelting plant at Kwanina, portions of which are being transferred to China.

Michael Corridon from Micor Ltd.
Michael had the winning entry for the 2013 Civils Demolition Award, a challenging offshore demolition project entitled ‘The Demolition of the UK Ministry of Defence’s Upper Harbour Ammunition Facility outside Gosport.’ His presentation will cover the project.

Those are the first two confirmed speakers, and there's sure to be many more announced in the coming months. We hope to see you all there in November.

World Demolition Summit 2013 confirmed speakers and topics

The World Demolition Summit 2013 is set to go ahead on the 31st October at the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam. If you're still undecided about going (it's well worth it) then the confirmed speaker list and their topics may help make up your mind.

John Woodward speaking at DEMCON 2010

DEMCON 2010 is taking place at the InfraCity Exhibition Centre north of Stockholm running from the 9th-10th September. We can also now confirm that our very own John Woodward will be in attendance and speaking.

DEMCON is for demolition, recycling, concrete sawing and drilling, concrete floor grinding and polishing, and related industry. It looks to have the biggest turn out yet this year as we still have over 3 months to go and yet 90% of the indoor exhibition space is already booked.

IDE Autumn Seminar Speakers: Dick Green

Dick spent the first 25 years of his working life in the British army as a Royal Engineers serving on many operations throughout the world where his roles included Construction, emolition and Bomb Disposal. He left the Army in 1993 and for the next 16 years was employed as Project Manager and Senior Explosives Engineer for a UK based Company planning and executing explosive demolition projects worldwide . During his time with the company he carried out numerous demolition projects of high rise structures including projects in The Far East, Middle East, Asia, Mainland Europe, Scandinavia and the UK, In this presentation he recalls his experiences when demolishing a power station in Ramagundam, India.

Dick has recently formed IndEx independent explosives engineers limited, aiming to provide an independent explosives engineering service to the demolition industry.

Dick will once again be recalling his travels with another overseas explosive demolition project, this time he travels to a remote part of India to demolish a power station where the wildlife, weather and work force combined to make an interesting project.

IDE Autumn Seminar Speakers: Ruud Schreijer

Ruud Schreijer, born in Noord-Holland, Netherlands in 1958. Ruud began his career in purchasing in 1982, after Nautical School and Mechanical Engineering education, at KENZ cranes in Zaandam. KENZ is a manufacturer of offshore pedestal cranes and builds taylor made cranes for the oilrigs. In 1986, Ruud was appointed general manager for KENZ Cranes UK in Great Yarmouth to build cranes for Shell on platforms in the Leman field. Ruud graduated in 1990 with an MBA at Henley the Management College. In 1991, Ruud developed his own company, Rusch Kraantechniek, repairing cranes.

Specified in the repair of mobile telescopic booms of high tensile steel. This developed into a worldwide business of repairing booms for all sorts of mobile cranes and lattice boom crawler cranes. Rusch Kraantechniek is one of the three repair companies in Europe who can make a quality repair accepted by certifying authorities and insurance companies. Besides the repair of cranes Rusch Kraantechniek made special lifting appliances to the demands of it customers and modified existing cranes with longer or stronger booms.
Since 1993, Rusch Offshore Service is the only independent crane Service Company for offshore cranes in the Netherlands. After meeting a customer’s demand in 2005, Rusch Special Products developed a 60 meter and a 90 meter telescopic boom demolition machine for a 5T tool and later on triple mast machines for havier tool. The last delivery (June 2009) can take a 25T tool up to 34 meter.
