IDE decide to publish the AGM minutes on the website for the first time ever

Traditionally the IDE AGM minutes are distributed immediately before the following year's AGM, but this year the IDE Council of Management decided to publish the minutes as soon as they were available from National Secretary Maureen Tong-Ralphs and they are now on the website for download.

You can access the Minutes taken at the last Annual General Meeting on 15th November 2013 by clicking the following link:

A new beginning for the IDE

This Thursday at 9.00am will see the IDE Council of Management meet in full for the first time since the sudden resignation of Valerie Stroud following the successful seminar in Leeds at the end of February.

The council, under the leadership of Steve Jack, will sit for the first time since the bombshell resignation and plan IDE activities, consider membership applications and address member concerns.

For the new National Secretary, Maureen Tong-Ralphs, it will be first time that she has met or spoken to many council members so it will give them the opportunity to meet her and welcome her into the position. Maureen was recruited following a lengthy series of interviews by President Steve Jack, Vice President Duncan Rudall and Stuart Accleton and she is now working her way through the backlog of work left behind when Valerie Stroud resigned.

Items for discussion at the council remain confidential, but I can tell you that the events team will discuss the forthcoming Demo Expo 2013, the OGGS Seminar booked for Friday 27 September and the AGM and annual luncheon booked for Friday 15 November.

More members of IDE pass the Professional Interview and progress to MIDE

The IDE held the recent Council of Management meeting in Bristol on June 14th and following the meeting Professional Interviews were held with members wishing to upgrade their membership from AMIDE to MIDE.

The IDE Professional Interview means that an AMIDE member who has accrued the required CPD hours and has submitted his professional portfolio of two years work since passing the exam to the Membership Committee is then invited to attend a Professional Interview with Fellows of the Institute to progress to the next level of membership. The interview involves a question and answer session to establish that the AMIDE is still working in demolition and has carried out CPD as IDE rules.

This time around the panel interviewed William Crooks and Pat Harnett and both were successful.

Goodbye to you my Old Friend

It is with a heavy heart that I have to say Goodbye to my old friend David “Ross” Turner who died at home on Thursday morning after a long battle against cancer.

David taught me a great deal during my time at Detech Environmental Limited, and during my time on the IDE Council of Management during his period as Vice President to John Law and then as President of the IDE.

He always had an opinion and was willing to give that opinion, he was a good orator and a great speech maker, and was always around to discuss demolition over a pint of real ale.

I will miss him.
