The International Association of Concrete Drillers and Sawers gets its first female president

Julie White is the managing director of D-Drill, a company specialising in diamond drilling and concrete sawing. This successful company over 40-years-old and has 8 offices around the UK. However, it is also now home to the first female president of The International Association of Concrete Drillers and Sawers (IACDS).

Julie has been vice president of IACDS since 2013, but last month became president, and is so doing, becomes the first female to do so.

Speaking of her appointment, Julie commented:

"I believe my appointment as president of the IACDs proves that, actually, construction has taken great strides over recent years and is becoming an environment where women can thrive."

Diamond sawing MD wins Business Woman of the Year

Julie White, managing director of D-Drill, has been named the Vitalise Business Woman of the Year 2011 at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, which celebrates women’s achievements across the Midlands.

D-Drill is a diamond drilling and sawing company based in Coventry. Julie bought the family business from her father in 2008 and has since modernised the company as well as increasing turnover.

Of the award, she said:

"I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have won such a major award. 

The competition was so tough and I am just thrilled that the judges chose me and I will use this as an opportunity to further champion the cause of women in business. 

It’s not a case of competing against men – it’s all about giving other women the confidence to see what they can achieve. The industry that I am in is traditionally dominated by men and if I can do what I have done – other women can too."
