C&D customer DSM get to work on Coventry Post Office

The Coventry Telegraph has obtained video footage of DSM Demolition using high reach excavators to tear down the old Royal Mail sorting office in Coventry. You can watch the video at the link below.

In place of the £2.6 million sorting office will be erected a £73 million shopping and student accommodation complex called Bishopgate. However, the new complex is only at the public feedback stage, with formal plans yet to be submitted by the developers.

C&D customer Armac get to work in Coventry

Armac has started work on demolishing The Rocket Pub near Coventry railway station. The work is part of the ongoing Friargate regeneration project for the area, and the removal of the pub, which has been boarded up for four years, will likely be welcomed by locals. Eventually the area will become a new business district with 25 new buildings being constructed.

Once removed, the land will be used for storage while a tunnel is constructed beneath Warwick Road to allow better pedestrian access from the station to Central Six retail park.

A gallery of images showing the demolition in progress as well as some historical images from the pub's past can be viewed at the Coventry Telegraph website.

C&D customer Armac Group make short work of phase one of Coventry Ring Road

Armac Group are well known in the demolition industry for bridge demolition in very tight time frames, so it was no surprise to us that they were awarded the contract to demolish the first section of the Coventry Ring Road during a weekend closure last week.

The "Bridge Busters" moved in with a full team of men and machines and soon reduced the bridge to rubble.

Details of the work can be found via this link to BBC Midlands Today.

Bird's eye view of the Coventry AGCO Tower demolition

Last week we shared a couple of videos with you of the AGCO Tower in Coventry being imploded. Both videos were captured by someone with their feet firmly on the ground.

What we don't usually get to see is an implosion from the air, but for AGCO, someone was on hand in a helicopter filming the event. You can see that footage above.

AGCO Tower, Coventry demolition videos

Yesterday, the old AGCO Tower located in Coventry was imploded. We've included the best of the videos here for you to watch.

Other known as the Massey Fergusson tower, the 16-storey structure located off banner names was erected in 1966. It was being used as office space for AGCO, but has now been demolished to make way for a new primary school.

Diamond sawing MD wins Business Woman of the Year

Julie White, managing director of D-Drill, has been named the Vitalise Business Woman of the Year 2011 at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, which celebrates women’s achievements across the Midlands.

D-Drill is a diamond drilling and sawing company based in Coventry. Julie bought the family business from her father in 2008 and has since modernised the company as well as increasing turnover.

Of the award, she said:

"I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have won such a major award.

The competition was so tough and I am just thrilled that the judges chose me and I will use this as an opportunity to further champion the cause of women in business.

It’s not a case of competing against men – it’s all about giving other women the confidence to see what they can achieve. The industry that I am in is traditionally dominated by men and if I can do what I have done – other women can too."
