Whose turn is it to clean the toilets?

A recent report the by HSE, following a month long programme of spot-check inspections, found that, despite many years of guidance and regulation, 40% of sites visited failed the inspection for one reason or another. Findings and results were:

• Poor standards/dangerous practices at 40% of sites visited (691 of 1748)
• On 360 (one in five) sites, practices so poor that enforcement action needed
• 313 prohibition notices issued
• 235 improvement notices issued
• The most common issues identified related to work at height and falls (42%), failure to control dust (12%), insufficient welfare (12%) and asbestos (10%)
• In total 35% of notices were served for health issues (asbestos, dust, noise, vibration, welfare, manual handling)

The one issue that surprises in these figures is the 12% of sites where insufficient welfare facilities were cited as a reason for the failure. Not necessarily an issue high on people’s Health and Safety agenda, but still one that can result in a problem, if you get it wrong. So what does a contractor need to do to provide adequate welfare facilities for their employees?

Well the majority of requirements are common sense as usual and could be best decided by asking yourself would I be happy using these facilities? There are however a few specifics that need addressing and they are detailed in the HSE Construction Information Sheet number 59 which should answer all questions you may have. Repeat training order for C&D from EDS Limited

EDS Limited have appointed C&D to carry out their Environmental Awareness training for their site personnel training programme for 2012.

Following successful delivery of Demolition Awareness training courses for a number of their site managers in 2011 EDS Limited have today re-appointed C&D Consultancy as their training providers for a new Environmental Awareness course running throughout 2012.

The one day course will be delivered by John Woodward on all EDS sites throughout the UK starting in July 2012.

This new order, following on from other orders confirmed in the last few days reinforces C&D's position as one of the leading demolition training providers in the UK.

C&D on tour!

Over the last few years we have all become accustomed to rock bands and big selling artists doing residencies at Las Vegas and the O2 Arena for nights on end. But are C&D the first demolition training company to do a residency as a training provider?

From 28th November to 22nd December 2012 C&D trainers will be at the same site, Lee Demolition Limited-Kidbrooke, delivering training in a number of subjects for 19 consecutive days in a row!

Lee Demolition have, once again, turned to C&D to provide their training at all levels of the company as feedback from the men has been excellent across the board on courses delivered during 2011.

Another major demolition training order for C&D

C&D are pleased to announce that they have been awarded an order from Lee Demolition Limited for demolition awareness refresher training for the whole of their workforce as it becomes due.

The training, being delivered by John Woodward and Roland O'Connor, is as the NDTG approved course content but with added modules specifically developed by C&D. The first of the 40 training days is on Monday 11 July.
