Coleman & Company start work on massive Wednesbury gas holders dismantling

If you've travelled along the M6 past Junction 9 (Wednesbury) then you can't fail to notice the massive gas holders at the side of the road. Now those structures are set to disappear as they have become redundant.

The work is being carried out by C&D customer Coleman & Company. Once removed, the 20 acres of land will will be managed as a Black Country enterprise zone, creating hundreds of new jobs and regenerating the area through business development (with a focus on manufacturing). You can see the size of the development area in the image above.



Over 90% of the first gas holder has already been dismantled, with work on the second expected to get underway shortly. A few weeks from now, both holders will have been completely removed from the site.

Gas leak explosion kills four people in apartment block

Yesterday a suspected gas leak in two apartment blocks in East Harlem, New York caused a huge explosion. The blast killed four people and so far 60 have been confirmed injured, but there may be more people still to find inside the buildings. 9 people are unaccounted for right now.

The inevitable fire that followed the gas explosion took 200 fire fighters to bring under control. And because the explosion happened so suddenly, there was no time to clear the area due to no warning. A gas leak had been reported, but only shortly before.

Such was the force of the blast, both buildings were reduced to rubble.

Gas explosion bursts through London pavement, sends fireball into the air

After the recent bombing in Boston everyone can be forgiven for being a bit on edge. So not one, but three explosions in London has caused some upset. However, these explosions weren't performed by terrorists, they were in fact gas explosions.

They occurred on Pimloco Road due to a power cable bursting. The first was powerful enough to burst through the pavement slabs. The second hurled a fireball into the air through the freshly made hole, while the third was just another explosion with no further fireballs appearing from the ground.

The cable is owned by UK Power Networks and the burst line meant 1,867 customers were without power. But the real issue is how lucky it was no one got hurt. If someone had been walking along that part of the pavement when the first explosion hit, they could have been seriously injured.
