Important Date for Asbestos Workers and Managers Diaries

With the New Year well and truly in progress, we are rapidly approaching an important date that all managers and workers dealing with asbestos should be aware of. As part of the updates to the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, and following on from the requirement to briefly document each job with records of workers involved and levels of likely exposure, there are new medical conditions to consider.

By April 2015, all workers/self-employed workers undertaking notifiable non-licensed work with asbestos must be under health surveillance by a doctor. Workers who are already under health surveillance for licensed work need not have another medical examination for non-licensed work. BUT medicals for notifiable non-licensed work are not acceptable for those doing licensed work.

This is the last of the updates to the original regulations to come into effect, but it will require comprehensive record keeping to ensure compliance. The remainder of the regulations remain broadly the same, emphasising the need for training of operatives and the importance of correctly face fitted respiratory protection and other PPE as well correct cleaning and disposal methods.

New Equal Opportunity & Diversity Course Sells out in record time

Last week we launched our new Equal Opportunities course to prepare companies for the fact that this subject will appear in all local authority PQQs from July 2012 and we are pleased to announce that the initial course of 10 spaces has SOLD OUT.

You may have noticed that an increasing number of clients are now looking for evidence of Equal Opportunity and Diversity practice within companies and are asking for evidence of training in PreQual Questionnaires.

Having been approached by several of our regular customers with enquiries regarding this, we are now able to offer a one day training course aimed at supervisors and managers.

Learning Outcomes:

1. To explore how beliefs attitudes and behaviour drive and influence behaviour
2. To gain an increased awareness of issues around equality and diversity
3. To examine the principals of good practice around equality and diversity
4. To gain an understanding of their duties in relation to current and forthcoming UK equality legislation
5. To look at the role and responsibility of supervisors and managers in promoting good practice

NEW!! People Skills for Managers Course

Following the success of the two Communication Courses run by C&D earlier in the year, we have taken on board the feedback from candidates and developed this enhanced one day course for Supervisors and Managers.

The ‘People Skills for Managers Course’ offers a candidate the opportunity to:

• Understand the process of communication
• Practice effective listening
• Identify their own style of communication and that of others
• Learn to be assertive rather than aggressive
• Explore strategies to deal with complaints

The course is suitable for both site and office based employees and provides an opportunity to develop and practice the interpersonal skills required when managing people.

The cost of the course is £90 per person plus VAT and candidates can join open courses in the West Midlands area or, alternatively, the course can be run as a group course at a venue of your choice.

Maximum numbers of candidates per course will be 12 to ensure that candidates gain most benefit from the experience.
