Scottish Power become increasingly concerned about scrap metal theft from sub stations

Scottish Power has been placing an ever increasing focus on Utility Metal Theft, and other interference around their sub-station estate over the last twelve months.

They recognise that this type of illegal interference on their estate as having the potential to cause a major Health and Safety incident, where the lives of their customers, first responders, and staff could be put at risk.

Working closely with various Police Services across the UK, they have been very successful in tackling some high focus interferences. They are now in meetings with demolition contractors, reaching out to stakeholders to obtain support in communicating with their staff and contractors to highlight the risk and consequences of interfering with Sub-Stations and other electrical infrastructure assets, whilst engaged in demolition or construction works.

From the meetings in Glasgow it was clear that the team had an excellent understanding of each organisation's obligations in ensuring that staff and contractors follow the process in requesting electrical isolations, from Scottish Power, and that non-conformance would not be tolerated.

Hitachi 5 ton excavator stolen

On Friday, a Hitachi 5 ton excavator along with equipment was stolen from Bromley Demolition. Details of the vehicle are as follows:

Coleman & Company has Furukawa HB15G breaker stolen

The NFDC has sent out a notice to members regarding the theft of a Furukawa HB15G breaker from Coleman & Company.

The breaker was taken from a site in Leicester at 3am on Saturday, 15th December. The serial number of the breaker is 3114.

Dorton Group suffers major attachment theft

Demolition contractor Dorton Group has unfortunately been the victim of a major theft over the Bank Holiday weekend. Their premises at Burgess Hill were broken into and thieves have stolen a number of machine parts. Here's an excerpt from the e-mail Terry Quamby sent describing the theft:

They brought with them a Hiab lorry, sawed off the tongue to the gate latch, smashed the alarms and lighting standards, ripped out the electric cables and overturned at least 10 pallets and stillages of reclaimed materials to get their lorry through. They smashed a window and door lock on the 7 tonner to move it and broke off all the locks to the storage containers but do not appear to have taken anything from them.

Altogether we lost 4 x selector grabs, 1 x pulverisor and 2 x hammers. Details of which are as follows:
