Face fitting of paper masks

John has been receiving a lot of enquiries regarding the face fitting of paper masks. As part of out RPE (Respiratory Protective Equipment) Employee Awareness & Fit Test we ensure you know what the requirements are.

Here's our guidance away from the training course:

The requirement for RPE Face Mask Fit Testing is described in the Approved Code of Practices supporting:

* The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) 2002

* The Control of Lead at Work Regulations (CLAW) 2002

* The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006

Face mask fit testing is a legal requirement for checking that a tight fitting face mask matches the person's facial features and seals adequately to the wearer's face. It will also help ensure that incorrectly fitting face masks are not selected for use.

An inadequate fit will significantly reduce the protection provided to the wearer. Any reduction in protection can put the RPE wearer's life in danger or may lead to immediate or long term ill health. Correct fitting of the face masks at all times is vital to prevent exposure.

Our course covers:

  • Legislation

  • Employee awareness

  • Risks and dangers of incorrectly fitting masks

  • Importance of selecting correct RPE

  • Face mask fit demonstration

  • Individual face mask fit & evaluation
