Detecting mesothelioma symptoms and what to do
One of the problems of working with asbestos without the proper safety precuations, is that you don't know and won't know for years if it has affected your health. There are signs, though, and action you can take if you have been exposed.
The Mesothelioma Cancer website has a brief guide to what to look out for and what to do if exposure is expected.
If you know you have been exposed, but show no symptoms, then the best thing to do is consult your doctor. If the history of exposure is long then pulmonary function tests can be carried out.
Even when symptoms do occur, they are common to many other ailments and include chest pain, rib pain, shortness of breath, a persistent cough, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, bloody cough, night sweats, fever, and weight loss. Again, a trip to the doctor is the best course of action.
