Following on from our article last week about confusion with regard to PAT testing, it is a happy coincidence that HSE have reissued guidance on portable appliance testing (PAT) to combat misleading advice.
Health & Safety at Work Magazine this month reports that the HSE are issuing a revamped version of the leaflet "INDG 236 Maintaining Portable Electric Equipment in Low-Risk Environments" as the HSE believe that disproportionate advice on PAT costs businesses £30 million a year.
Regulation 4 (2) of the Electricity at Work regulations requires dutyholders only to ensure electrical equipment is maintained "at regular, appropriate intervals" to prevent danger.
