Mohave Power Station implosion happens June 8th

The 1,580 megawatt coal-fired power plant known as the Mohave Power Station located in Southern California has been closed for a while now. Demolition was inevitable and we now have a date for the implosion of its boiler structures.

On June 8th the structures will come down as part of ongoing efforts to clear the site. A major delay happened in April when it was found a Great Horned owl was nesting there and had eggs. The Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act halted work, but the chicks have since hatched and been relocated after seemingly leaving their nest early due to the high heat in the area.

The only thing that can delay the implosion happening now is high winds. Anything greater than 10mph gusts and a we'll have to wait a little longer to see the boilers come down.
