Want to appear on the BBC's Britain's Most Spectacular Backyard Builds?

Rochelle Newman, a Casting Junior Researcher for RDF Television has been in touch requesting that we spread the word about a forthcoming BBC Two series called Britain’s Most Spectacular Backyard Builds.

Here's what she had to say about the show:

"I am part of the casting team on a brand new BBC Two series called Britain’s Most Spectacular Backyard Builds, which is celebrating Britain’s most passionate inventors, makers, engineers and tinkerers.

The programme is all about homemade inventions and we’re looking for the Caractacus Pott’s of Britain; the people who love to invent and create inventions for their home!

We’re looking for a variety of stories – this could be of existing inventions and builds, to mid-builds that aren’t finished yet, to brand new builds which we can document the process from start to finish.

I wondered whether you would be kind enough to circulate this information to your members? We want to tap into the hidden talent of the country to find the most passionate and creative home inventors out there, and I’d appreciate your help in our search for the best.

Filming for the series will take place between January - March 2016 and those who take part will only be required for between 1 to 4 days.
"

For those who are interested, they can email the team at makers@rdftelevision.com or visit the BBC website to download an application form.

The ATV Centre on Broad Street in Birmingham is no more

If you remember watching Crossroads, Bullseye, Blockbusters, Tiswas on a Saturday morning, or enjoyed Central News, then you have Central Studios in the ATV Centre on Broad Street in Birmingham to thank for those productions. However, after two decades of closure, the building is no more. C&D customer DSM has now removed an iconic part of Midlands TV history.

At the time of its opening in 1970, the ATV Centre was the most advanced TV production studio in Europe. Oh how things have changed.

Miniature Skyscraper Demolition

Demolition News has tracked down a great video detailing how all the demolition you see on TV and in movies isn't actually real. While a lot may be done on computers, models are still required to get some of the detail across to the viewer, or just so animators can see what goes on during a building demolition.

It's a fascinating watch:
