World Demolition Awards Judges: Bill Moore

The World Demolition Summit and Awards this year kicks off on November 2nd in London. And for those awards there needs to be judges. DRi decided to do a mini-profile for each judge, so we thought we'd mirror that practice starting with Bill Moore.

Many of you may know Bill from his 25 years as a marketing rep (among other things) at Brandenburg Industrial Service Co., but more recently he's been at Environmental Resources Management (ERM). As for his youth, he counts a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Environmental Safety and Safety Management to his name, attained while studying at Indiana State University.

Speaking with DRi, Bill commented:

"We are looking for new and innovative techniques. For example, Ferrari of France using hydraulic jacks to push walls out to collapse buildings without explosives, and Priestly Demolition’s job where it rolled a huge bridge onto the river bank to cut it up. And of course Despe’s Top Down method of enclosing the floors undergoing demolition.

There have been some serious accidents in the past couple of years in our industry so we also have to encourage all attendees at the WDS 2017 to follow best practice for the good of our industry.

Inflatable bags for demolition protection

Thank you to Bill Moore for sending us this short video of the use of inflatable bags for protection during demolition. I knew I would find a use for that old bouncy castle that is in my garage!

Good example of thinking a job through to come up with a solution.

If the video above doesn't work for you, then it's also available to watch on The Des Moines Register website.

My Dad does Demolition crosses the pond

Joint authors of My Dad Does Demolition--John Woodward & Mark Anthony--are delighted that Bill Moore (judge of the World Demolition Awards in Amsterdam in November) liked the book so much that he ordered one for his grandson Jake.

Here is what Bill said when he sent through a picture of his grandson with the book:

"As promised, here's a picture I had taken yesterday after giving your book to my grandson, Jake, at his 8th birthday party.

My son, John, is 36 and is the general superintendent for Alpine Demolition, a suburban Chicago demolition contractor.

Jake may be the 3rd generation "wrecker"?

Thanks again for the great book!
"

We've also received picture proof from our friend and explosive demolition expert Fabio Bruno that My Dad Does Demolition has now reached Brazil!

You can still obtain copies via eBay.

Great timelapse video of the Des Plaines Oasis Pavilion Removal

Here at C&D we like good timelapse videos so it is nice to receive this one from our friend Bill Moore, which features work by his son's company on the Des Plaines Oasis Pavilion. It's an unusual job by the look of it, and one recorded for posterity in a very nice film.

You can learn more about the project at the Illinois Tollway website.
