Dust Suppression toolbox talk from IQ

The Institute of Quarrying has produced the slide set you can see above, which acts as a toolbox talk. It acts as an overview of the differing ways in which effective dust suppression can be achieved safely and with an environmentally friendly approach to suit differing applications.

You can also view it alone with our own set of Toolbox Talks over on the Demolition Training website.

First Aid Training changes forever in October 2013

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 have governed first aid in the workplace and since 1982 the HSE have approved the training and qualifications of appointed first aid personnel. But when the HSE announced in February a proposal to deregulate first aid training it is likely that from October this year employers will be free to choose any provider of first aid training.

Remember that First Aid Training means that you could save more than a few pounds - you could save a life and what price would you put on that?

Further details of our first aid courses can be found at our sister site www.demolitiontraining.com

Garage collapse video reminds us why demolition training is so important

Last week we happened upon a piece of frightening film which captures the moment that a builder carrying out the demolition of a garage was struck by the collapsing wall and concrete roof and almost lost his life before suffering an appalling injury to his leg.

The film is featured on our sister site www.demolitiontraining.com and can be viewed there along with our comments with regard to demolition training.

We need to educate the general public, and small builders in particular, that demolition is a skilled art and must only be carried out by trained, competent workers with those workers trained as the NDTG CCDO scheme states.

Can demolition labourers remove asbestos products?

We often get emails asking if demolition labourers can remove asbestos based products and we answer Yes and No as it depends on the products.

Demolition labourers cannot remove notifiable asbestos products such as Flock, Limpet sprayed coatings, insulation in any form, insulation boards and debris from those products as that is a job for licensed asbestos removal contractors.

However, providing that the labourers have passed a CAT B asbestos training course (details of this course can be found at our Demolition Training website) and have the right rpe, ppe and equipment, then they can remove non notifiable products such as asbestos cement goods, asbestos cement roof sheets, asbestos papers, asbestos based felts, toilet cisterns, artex and paint coatings.

Don't take risks with asbestos, make sure the team are trained to deal with it, have the correct rpe and ppe and the disposal is as CAR2012.

C&D Free Demolition Toolbox talks are a success

When we decided to launch our dedicated demolition training website we wanted to try to give something back to the industry for free so we recorded a number of toolbox talks on a variety of topics, posted them to Youtube, and waited to see if we would get any requests for downloads.

The response so far has been very good with many download requests as well as requests for the talks in Turkish and Polish, both of which will be available at a small sum in the next few weeks.

If you would like to see the talks for yourself or arrange for a free download please head on over to DemolitionTraining.com

Training orders continue to flow

Here at C&D we expected a post New Year blip in training orders as companies sort out their needs for the year, but 2013 has been an exception to the rule with training orders arriving every day by email and post.

Since the turn of the year we have received orders for over 40 training courses ranging from abrasive wheel training for a team of London stonemasons to Stress Awareness for a major building contractor and our investment in our new dedicated demolition training website www.demolitiontraining.com is already proving to be a sound one.

To launch the new website we offered visitors the chance to enter a competition to win a Year's supply of Make Mine A Builder's tea and the opportunity to download demolition specific toolbox talks, both of which have proved to be very popular.

If you need training of any sort please pop across to the site to see what courses we have on offer.

C&D Consultancy over Christmas and New Year

All of the team at C&D Consultancy would like to thank our customers for their business in 2012 and to wish them, and all of the demolition industry, a very Happy Christmas and an extremely prosperous New Year.

As in previous years we have chosen to donate to a local charity rather than send Christmas cards and this year we have donated to a local shelter for the homeless to help provide warm clothing, food, and a room from time to time for those who are forced to sleep rough.

We thank our website advertisers for 2012, Northerntrack and ECY Haulmark, and hope that they will continue to support the website in 2013 and everyone who has contributed news items to the site this year.

2013 will see some changes to C&D presence on the web as we launch a new website in January www.demolitiontraining.com where you will find all of the training courses that we offer, details of training from other providers who have training that complements our own courses, and free to download video toolbox talks that will assist your supervisors in providing a variety of toolbox talks throughout the year.

The office will be closed from 3.00pm on Friday 21 December and will reopen at 7.00am on Monday 07 January 2013. If you require training between those dates please do not hesitate to contact John direct on 07870 404906 or at john.woodward@demolishdismantle.co.uk as he, and other members of the team, will be available if required.
