Grafitti used to help raise asbestos awareness
There are many ways for the dangers of asbestos to be made known to the general public, but while older generations may be well aware of its impact, younger generations may not due to its lack of use in today's modern society.
So in an attempt to bring that knowledge to younger people, a graffiti contest in the Philippines is using it as a subject matter. It's called the Asbestos Street Fighters Street Art Competition Versus the Deadly Dust contest and the theme entrants have to use is "Asbestos Kills People."
Artwork will be created across multiple cities in the region ensuring the message gets out to as many people as possible. And unlike handouts or advertising, the graffiti will remain in place for months if not years to come ensuring everyone knows asbestos really does kill.
Noel Colina, the executive director of Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development, commented:
"We recognize the power and dynamism of this art form, which brings fresh and powerful messages, much appreciated by the young and old alike. We intend to maximize the dynamism of street art to package the message that death via asbestos remains a threat lingering among the human population."
