C&D Fishing days are back!

Regular readers will know that C&D hold golf days on a regular basis (the next one is on Friday, 2nd June at Enville Golf Club, register by emailing Craid at craig@demolishdismantle.co.uk if you would like to play this year).

But John is a fisherman, not a golfer, so he feels left out on the golf days. Therefore this year we are hosting one golf day and TWO fishing days!!!

If you are a coarse fisherman and would like to drown a few worms and maybe catch a net full of fish, why not come to a fishing day?

Dates and venues are as follows:-
  • Friday, 30th June at Moorlands Farm near Kidderminster
  • Friday, 4th August at Furnace Mill near Bewdley
Each day will start with a full fisherman's breakfast before drawing pegs for a 5 hour match. After emptying the pool of fish we will then have a meal and prize giving before driving home.

Both days are free of charge to invited guests, but places are limited to 12 people at Moorlands and 16 at Furnace Mill.

If you want to join us please email John at john.woodward@demolishdismantle.co.uk

"It's goodbye from me and it's goodbye from him"

Next Friday sees the 2016 IDE AGM when Dave Darsey succeeds Duncan Rudall as President and either Gary Bishop or Richard Dolman becomes Vice President, but it's also the day when Steve Jack steps down from the CoM after over 20 years round the table and I also step down after 10 years round the table!

Will we be glad to step to down? I am sure that Steve will agree when I say that it will be strange not attending CoM meetings, but we both believe that now is the right time to go to make way for a younger element on CoM who can continue our work and take us to chartered status.

The days saved by not attending the meetings will be used by Steve to improve his golf and by me to improve my fishing as we both move towards retirement.

When I asked Steve about his golf this week he said:-

For some time, my wife's had this ridiculous idea that I'm playing too much golf. Actually, it came to a head at about 11.30pm last night. She suddenly shouted at me: "Golf, golf, golf. All you ever think about is bloody golf!". And I'll be honest, it frightened the life out of me. I mean, you don't expect to meet somebody on the 14th green at that time of night.

And for myself:-

This week I was asked to do a very important after-dinner speech. I said: "Do you want me to be funny?" They said: "No, just be yourself."

Goodnight!

32 competitive demolition industry golfers take on the Belfry

On June 24th, 32 golfers from 14 different NFDC member companies, came together at the Belfry golf course in Warwickshire to compete for the Inter-Regional Trophy.

It has been over two years since the Inter-Regional Golf Day was last run, and I think everyone is glad to see it make a comeback, and C&D Consultancy was also very happy to be a sponsor. The winners ended up being Number 8 Construction, who counted Trevor Mills (Managing Director), Pete Hart, Gordon McKendry and the All Blacks Number 8 player Zinzan Brooke as team members.

As well as being a great day out, the evening meal following the golf raised £6,855 for charity. We hope it becomes a regular calendar event from now on!

NFDC Golf Day 2009

The 2009 NFDC Golf day was held on Friday 18 September 2009 at De Vere Belton Woods, Grantham and a good turnout saw a closely fought contest in glorious weather.

Unfortunately Scotland & Northern Ireland were unable to muster a team for the event so the competition went ahead with teams from the other four NFDC regions competing for the trophy.

The day started with Pat Harnett of Midlands & Welsh (this year’s hosts) greeting the players (Including IDE President Terry Quarmby playing for London & Southern) over coffee and bacon rolls before teams made their way to the first tee to let battle commence. The teams enjoyed excellent weather throughout the 18 holes of golf and at the end of their rounds they all adjourned to the 19th Hole for a well deserved drink whilst scores were calculated prior to the presentation dinner.

The evening dinner saw the following prizes presented by John Woodward (IDE Vice President), who attended the dinner with his wife Jill, as the guest of Wrightways Ltd who organised the excellent day:-

1. Nearest the Pin – Anthony Verity (North East).
2. Nearest the pin in two shots – Ian Shaw (Midlands & Welsh).
3. Longest Drive – Kevin Robson (North East).

With the individual prizes presented it then left Pat Harnett to announce the team scores which were as follows:

o Fourth Place – 160 points – Midlands & Welsh
o Third Place - 164 points – North West
o Second Place – 165 points – London & Southern
o Winners – 167 points - North East.

North East team captain Mark Davison collected the trophy and in a short address thanked Midlands & Welsh for organising the event and promised a great event next year in the Tyne Tees area.

Well done North East!
