TRD talks about helping young people into employment

As we reported back in May, through a collaboration with Groundwork Greater Nottingham and support from the Big Lottery-fund Talent Match programme, C&D Consultancy is going to deliver specialist courses in asbestos awareness and NVQ Level 1 in Demolition to a group of young people in Derby and Nottingham.

Total Reclaims Demolition (TRD) is also involved and has posted about the initiative on their website. Here's an excerpt:

"The training provided to the chosen individuals firstly provides insight into the dangers of working with materials containing asbestos as well as essential skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in demolition. This will then be followed by a workshop and an interactive touch screen test surrounding the competencies required to carry our general labouring duties whilst under supervision. If successfully completed, the trainees will be awarded their Demolition Labourer Card and the NVQ Level 1 Certificate of Competence for Demolition Operatives."

If you or anyone you know who is in this position and would be interested in future courses, please email matt.hanrahan@groundworknottingham.org.uk

Business is so good that the demolition contractor has taken on over 30 new staff to cope with demand. The main reason for this expansion is a new contract that sees Total working on a council regeneration programme.

Total Reclaims Demolition is demolishing five 16 storey blocks in Nottingham

Total Reclaims Demolition is in the midst of a big contract job in Nottingham, which will see the company bring down five sets of 1960s 16-storey blocks of flats. The flats will be replaced by new council homes as part of an ongoing regeneration project.

The first of the blocks to come down is Lenton Court, and luckily for us the whole process was caught on camera. If you'd like to see how it progressed click on the link below as unfortunately there's no way to embed the video.

The training will be delivered by Jill Woodward who has been delivering diversity training for several years in local authority and health authority areas.
