Collins Demolition Takes Delivery of Volvo High Reach

We were very happy to hear that Collins Demolition has taken delivery of a Volvo EC380E HR high reach machine complete with a brand new Rotar RSS20 scrap shear.

The EC380E has an operating weight of 113,410 pounds, a gross power of 303HP, tool weight of 6,600 pounds, and a reach of 23 meters (75 feet). By taking delivery of the machine, it means Collins no longer needs to rely on hiring a high reach machine when they need one, which will save money in the long run. They also have an existing fleet of Volvo machines together with a range of grabs, shears, and pulverisers.

According to Scott Craddock, director at Collins Demolition:

"Owning our own high reach strengthens our demolition offering and will help us to cut costs associated with hiring one in ... It is a welcome addition to our expanding range of equipment and we are looking forward to the next one ... We have also added to our range of Rotar attachments with the new scrap shear. We feel that the Rotar range is perfectly matched to our Volvo fleet."

Changes to Midlands Regional Meeting Dates and Venues

Following discussions with Adrian McLean and Richard Dolman the IDE have decided to make the following changes to the Midlands Regional Meetings:-

Tuesday 17th January: Venue is changed from Armac Group to an AR sponsored venue. Details will follow but date remains the same.

Wednesday 5th April: Date is now Thursday 30 March at Armac Group Quarry to coincide with the launch of the new Volvo Demolition Range at the venue on the following day.

IDE Midlands Regional Meeting was a great success

The IDE has made a point of highlighting how well the last IDE Midlands Regional Meeting went on March 26th. Organised by Adrian McLean, with our very own John Woodward in attendance, the meeting saw 35 attendees travelling to Casey Joe's Solihull from Leicester, Nottingham, Rotherham, Chesterfield, Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

Presentations were given by Volvo UK talking about their new high reach machine, and Spillard Safety Systems who we covered a couple of weeks ago when talking about vehicle blind spots. Afterwards there was curry and a few beers.

If you missed this Midlands meeting, or would like to attend one in the future, then don't worry, there will be many more and the IDE intends to keep making them better and better.

C&D customer McAuliffe Group expand their transport fleet with Volvo

Wolvehampton-based McAuliffe Group has placed an order for eight, brand new Volvo tipper trucks from The Harthstone Group. The order has been made possible thanks to turnover doubling over the past 24 months.

McAuliffe has managed the revenue increase through rejuvenating brownfield sites, and this has led to greatly increased demand for the company's services. They re-profile old land, demolish old buildings, recycle as much of the waste as possible, and decontaminate areas safely when necessary. It's the whole package. And this isn't a new company, 2015 is the firm's 45th year of operation and they've been using Volvo vehicles since the 70's. The reason? High resale value.

We see nothing but positives coming out of McAuliffe's operations right now. Long may it continue!

New Volvo Zero tail swing high reach machine unveiled

First photographs of the New Volvo GB Disribution Company Zero tail swing high reach machine unveiled at the RWM exhibition at the NEC this week and currently on display all this week in Armac Demolition Ltd yard at Bickenhill.


We are pleased to bring you the first photographs of the new Volvo GB Disribution Company zero tail swing machine, developed in conjunction with Kokureck, currently on display at Armac for all this week in conjunction with the RWM exhibition.

This innovation in design puts the counterweight onto the tracks to allow the zero tail swing configuration to work efficiently and give a high reach at 21 metres.

With the new design coupled with the tilting cab the machine, that is shortlisted in the Demolition Awards, will be very popular throughout Europe where clients need high reach demolition in tight spaces.

Inaugural Dublin event hailed as great success

IDE President Terry Quarmby and Vice President John Woodward, attended the first IDE meeting in Dublin on Thursday 11th February to bring the message of IDE membership to 32 delegates from all over Ireland.

The excellent day, sponsored by Sandvik and PP O’Connor, included interesting presentations from Terry, John, Sandvik, Volvo and Peninsular, for whom Margaret Pears gave her usual entertaining talk about the redundancy legislation minefield. The presentations provoked lively discussion and questions from the floor throughout the day.

It was nice to see long time IDE members Susi Buchner, Eamonn McCormack and Austin O’Hare in the audience and mixing with the delegates to encourage them to apply for membership and equally nice to receive requests for a repeat visit in Autumn 2010 or Spring 2011.

Volvo win Innovation prize at Demolition Awards

Volvo Construction Equipment’s Standard Demolition machine package has been presented with the Innovation Award in the Series Product category at the Demolition Awards held in Amsterdam earlier this month.

Volvo’s Derrick Butterfield, Global Manager, Marketing Design, said:

It’s always nice to have one’s efforts recognized, but to be awarded this prize by the industry itself is really encouraging. We recognize that the demolition sector has specific needs, not least in increased operator safety, but also in performance and durability. Our Standard Demolition Package addresses all of these criteria in a tailor made, easy-to-specify way for customers.
