IDE Midlands Regional Meeting was a great success
The IDE has made a point of highlighting how well the last IDE Midlands Regional Meeting went on March 26th. Organised by Adrian McLean, with our very own John Woodward in attendance, the meeting saw 35 attendees travelling to Casey Joe's Solihull from Leicester, Nottingham, Rotherham, Chesterfield, Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
Presentations were given by Volvo UK talking about their new high reach machine, and Spillard Safety Systems who we covered a couple of weeks ago when talking about vehicle blind spots. Afterwards there was curry and a few beers.
If you missed this Midlands meeting, or would like to attend one in the future, then don't worry, there will be many more and the IDE intends to keep making them better and better.

At the recent IDE Membership Committee meeting the committee decided to bestow Fellow status to Adrian McLean of Armac Group and Stella Wright of Total Reclaims Limited and our congratulations go out to both.
Stella's Fellowship is in recognition of the work done for the IDE as a Council of Management member for many years and for seminar organisation during that time.
Adrian's fellowship is in recognition of the great work done when on the Council of Management, the constant promotion of the IDE and its core values to major UK clients, organisation of regional events on a regular basis for the last four years, and his work with many manufacturers on innovation of demolition plant and attachments.
Stella and Adrian become FIDE from the 20th June 2013 and they will collect their Fellowship certificates at the annual luncheon which will this year be at "Altitude", Millbank Tower, Westminster on Friday 15 November.

C&D Staff Pledge to get healthier
Here at C&D we are taking a leaf out of Adrian McLean's book and changing our ways to live a healthier lifestyle. Adrian, Director of Armac Group, changed his lifestyle a few months ago and saw immediate benefits and we have now decided to follow suit by not only changing our diets and exercise regime, but by signing the company into the Public Health Responsibility Deal, which supports changes to many areas of lifestyle for workers.
We intend to spread the word that lifestyle changes are beneficial and intend to engage workers on sites during training courses to advise them on proposed changes. Full details of the deal can be found at http://responsibilitydeal.dh.gov.uk/sign-up/
One thing that will not change though is the full Irish breakfast on the Demolition training courses on Saturdays in Solihull which have become an important part of Midlands training!

IDE and NFDC announce a joint 2 day event
Following successful individual events throughout 2012 the IDE and NFDC have decided to hold a joint event over 2 days at the end of June.
The IDE family and friends weekend at JCB and Alton Towers last year was a roaring success so we wanted to repeat the format this year so have decided to hold a joint event with the NFDC where Day 1 includes workshops and plant exhibitions on Friday 28th June, and Day 2 on Saturday 29th June will be more family-friendly with rides, games, and entertainment throughout the day whilst Dad visits the plant stands.
The event has now been advertised on the NFDC website so why not pop over and take a look. You can also download the booking forms for Friday or for Saturday.
As part of the event Adrian McLean of Armac Group is arranging discount rooms and tickets for Drayton Manor Park over the weekend so why not make a full weekend of it.

Some things are just too good to demolish
Give Armac Demolition a building to demolish and they'll happily carry out the job. But sometimes a building has a section that is just too good to demolish, so rather than destroy it they try to save it by offering it for sale. The image above shows just one examply of this.
It's a stone porch that was built in 1899 and located at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefiled near Leeds. It measures 5 x 4 x 4 meters and is available to buy by contacting Adrian McLean at Armac on 07836 332993.
The porch had already been sold to an American buyer, but the deal fell through. If you have the space, or know of someone who would like this porch on their grounds, then please get in touch with Adrian. Whatever price is paid, 50% will be given back to the hospital trust.

Armac Demolition prepare for Coventry Hospital chimney lift

Armac Demolition Limited prepare to carry out the removal of the boiler house chimney at Coventry Hospital.
The close proximity of the live hospital buildings determined that high reach and explosive methods were not an option, therefore Noel McLean AMIDE and Adrian Mclean MIDE decided to lift the chimney by crane.
This chimney demolition forms a small part of the Armac contract to demolish the former hospital and clear the site for Principal contractor Galliford Try and the hospital trust. Works are expected to run into early July.

Armac save roof slates on a Balfour Beatty project at Burnage, Manchester

Armac Operations Director Adrian McLean MIDE has continued with his regular donations to local charities by donating several thousand roof tiles to Burnage School for use on their out of bounds school roof.
The tiles are being removed from the Burnage project for Balfour Beatty Construction Northern who have completed the building of a new school on the site before Armac moved into demolish the old school.
The contract is one of several won by Armac from Balfour Beatty in the north of England where they are midway through their Schools for the Future programme.

Record turnout for IDE Midlands Regional Meeting
The Midlands Regional Meeting of the IDE, arranged by Adrian McLean at the superb visitor centre at Caterpillar, Desford on Tuesday evening, resulted in a record turnout for a regional meeting with over 30 delegates present, including two recent Past Presidents in David Ross Turner and John Law (over from his home in Cyprus for a visit).
The evening started with Chris Key of Caterpillar giving us an overview of the history of the company and the range of products before handing over to Richard Carless of Finning who talked us through the new range of Demlone high reach demolition spec models launched by Caterpillar at Bauma. The full range on view at Bauma can be viewed at http://www.khl.com/magazines/demolition-and-recycling-international/detail/item55470/VIDEO-EXCLUSIVE
Following the presentations the delegates enjoyed a buffet provided by Caterpillar and then took the opportunity to view the new range of mini machines and loading shovels on the dedicated demonstration area before returning to the centre for the IDE meeting.
The IDE meeting commenced with Vice President John Woodward giving an overview of IDE up and coming events, the changes to CPD, as agreed at the Council of Management, and a request for technical papers for the IDE library.
Adrian Mclean reminded the delegates that the new range of IDE clothing was on display at the back of the room and that orders could be placed via the IDE website.
Lively discussion followed with questions from the floor about International Membership, Changes to the Waste Regulations, use of untrained labour for soft stripping, how asbestos cement sheet removal impacts on SWMPs and DRI’s, and how the HSE currently audit asbestos contracts in the region.
The meeting closed at 8.15pm with thanks to Caterpillar and Finning for being excellent hosts.
