Solihull IDE Regional Meeting was a well-attended success

The IDE has shared details of how well the regional meeting held earlier this month in Solihull went.

It was hosted by DSM Demolition Ltd., had more than 30 attendees, and enjoyed presentations from Stuart Butler of Avonmouth in Bristol and Martin Smith who works as a Safety Officer for Robinson and Birdsell a Demolition and Recycling. For full details, visit the IDE link below.

Congratulations to our friend Mick Williams who has moved from Keltbray to Brown and Mason

Mick Williams is one of the UK's most well-known and experienced explosive demolition engineers, and he has recently completed a move from Keltbray over to demolition, dismantling, and decommissioning company Brown and Mason (BAM).

Our friend Mick has over 750 blasts to his name, both in the UK and further afield, and has accrued more than20 years working in the business. That total will surely surpass 800 blasts before long with BAM having between 20-25 blasting jobs scheduled over the next 2 years. And that's partly why Mick has joined BAM. He enjoyed his time at Keltbray, but they don't have much blasting work planned in the near future.

Expect to see Mick's expertise at work almost immediately on BAM's current work schedule including our power stations at Kingsnorth, Isle of Grain, Teesside and Cockenzie, and at Coryton oil refinery.

Explosive demolition takes down 1,290 meter bridge in cleveland

Building implosions always offer the best spectacle to watch up close or on video, but you can't help but enjoy the light show a bridge implosion puts on. And the latest bridge to be raised to the ground by explosive demolition didn't disappoint.



This is the Innerbelt Bridge in Cleveland, Ohio which has stood since 1959. It was 1,290 meters in length and 35 meters wide, and it carried the traffic of Insterstate 90 until 2008 when the structure was deemed unsafe. It was reopened, but is now being replaced by the George V. Voinovich Bridges.

The implosion was carried out early on the morning of July 12th and went off without a hitch. It's incredible to imagine that a bridge that took from 1954 to 1959 to build cost $26 million over 50 years ago. I hate to think what that cost is in today's terms.

National Geographic Blowdown series preview video

There are six episodes in the series covering the explosive demolition of a rocket tower, nuclear explosion, Vegas casino, Miami job, spyship, and super stadium. All filmed in beautiful HD.

The work is carried out by Controlled Demolition Inc. and the series was created with the help of Parallax Film Productions. There's a preview of each episode on the Parallax website and we've included one below for you to watch.

Chimney blowdown open to the public

Following lots of requests we have decided to list all explosive demolitions that we are involved in on the website to enable people to come and view them on the day.

AR Demolition are to carry out explosive demolition of 2 chimneys at Timken Bearings, Desford Lane, Kirby Muxloe on Sunday 27 September 2009 at 11.00am.

A public viewing area will be installed off Desford Lane and refreshments will be available on the day. Should you wish to view the blast please be at the viewing area no later than 10.30am.

Local radio and TV stations will be in attendance, as will demolitionnews.com
